"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" begins in the 32nd century, following the events that happened after the "Star Trek: Discovery" time jump, which sent its crew from the 23rd century to its current setting. While the USS Discovery crew bypassed a major span of time, putting their aging process into question, everyone else has aged naturally, and that includes the Doctor (Robert Picardo), whose inclusion proves the possible longevity of holographic programs.

American television was never the same after "The Twilight Zone" and "Star Trek: The Original Series" premiered. Both series worked to remove the stigma from tough topics by presenting them in a way that was both challenging and entertaining. However, "The Twilight Zone" creator, Rod Serling, had a somewhat different perspective of "Star Trek" that pointed out many of its flaws.

A phaser's ping meant that the action was ramping up, but it's a sound effect that became well-known in a classic sci-fi horror film before making its way to the U.S.S. Enterprise.

"Police Academy" showed us that training to fight crime can be entertaining, and Leslie Nielsen was leading pun-filled slapstick in 1988's "Naked Gun."
