Five former Italian nuns have been released from their religious vows after leaving their monastery and establishing an association supporting people with anxiety and depression.

So far, 33 people have been rescued alive, but officials warn the chances of finding further survivors are dropping fast.

The report, All Kinds of Minds , has been put together for the General Synod, the Church's governing body, which meets in York next week.

Saeid Mansour Abdulraziq has been in detention since July 2025, after applying for official identity documents recognising his conversion from Islam to Christianity. He was later charged with joining a terrorist organisation, stirring unrest and spreading false news, allegations which he denies.

The advice comes in a report, Promoting Unity in our Nation , which will be discussed by the General Synod on 11 July.
