As most mid and smallcap stocks lack value, as they have witnessed significant re-rating in multiples without a strong underlying business model or competitive advantage.Therefore, it may be wise to re-evaluate investments in this space and consider shifting focus towards large-cap stocks, which have the potential to deliver stronger performance in the coming year.

"Elections do bring volatility. If one were to look at data for the last 30 years, despite the short-term volatility around pre and post election results, markets have given positive returns in almost all the terms of different political parties across this period. Given that we have had a good run up in the recent past, our guess is that we may see higher volatility as the election season comes closer."

The index closed flat with a positive bias at 46,841. It touched an intraday high of 46,927 and an intraday low of 46,507. The Nifty50 index, too, fell but managed to close above 20,900.

Sectorally, buying was seen in utilities, power, consumer durables and oil & gas while FMCG, metal and IT stocks saw some selling pressure.

The fertilizer stock hit a record high of Rs 854 on 7th December 2023 in intraday trade but failed to hold on to the momentum. It witnessed profit-taking and quickly turned negative largely in line with the price action seen in benchmark indices. Experts are of the view that given the fact it is trading near overbought levels some consolidation cannot be ruled out and dips can be used to go long.

The pharma stock rose from Rs 5,263 as of November 3, 2023, to Rs 5,776 as of December 5, 2023, which translates into an upside of about 10% in a month.

Nifty Bank rose over 400 points to close at 47,262. The Nifty50 also scaled 21,000 in intraday trade for the first time in history.
