Q: Some of your columns are from people who are weighing the cost of doing their own estate documents as opposed to paying a lawyer to prepare them.

Q. You have written about prenups, and you used the term “financial infidelity.” I thought that was an interesting comment.

Q. My uncle, who was like a father to me, left me a very nice commercial building in southern California. His second wife's daughter, call her Joan, handled matters when he died.

Q: I had a situation that I think you will find interesting. My sister had an accident which was followed by a period of dementia.

Q: My husband and I recently relocated to California from another state. We had literally just updated our estate plans and I am wondering if we need to do that again.

Q: My cousin asked me long ago if I would take care of distributing her property to her siblings and cousins when she died. I agreed.

Q: My mom has done all the right planning. She has a trust and prepared documents addressing her health care desires and appointed me as her power of attorney for finances.

Be aware the problem of forged artwork has proliferated in recent years, so establishing provenance and title is crucial.

Despite spending time and money on making estate and financial plans, things can arise that we have not contemplated. I refer to these as the “unknown awfuls.”
