Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth said she will support Emanuel Congregation's revised plans after the developer also agreed to include more family-sized housing units, public bathrooms and donations for nearby park improvements.

The plan would turn the St. Ignatius church and rectory into a center with a women's shelter, daycare and food pantry, while the former school would make way for student housing.

The plans include turning a portion of an alley bordering the development site and Chase Park into new public space.

The Clark Street store, co-founded by Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, is closing July 27 as its lease ends. Rent is high and “margins are very low,” she said.
