Alton Police responded to the report of an armed man in a vehicle in downtown Alton Tuesday afternoon, but were able to defuse the situation and take the man in for mental health evaluation. It happened in the first block of East Broadway around 2:15pm Tuesday and there were no injuries.

A box truck transporting U.S. Mail hit low hanging lines in East Alton this (Wed) morning, pulling them to the roadway and breaking the utility pole. East St. Louis Avenue was closed between Monroe and Broadway while the power lines were reconnected and the pole is replaced, and no injuries have been reported.

One person is dead, three others were injured in a shooting at a family gathering in the north St. Louis community of Berkely Thursday afternoon. It happened at the Ramona-Mathison Lake Park, which is near I-70 and North Hanley Road. A car which was trying to flee the gunfire ended up in the lake, but no one was found inside.

Three people from Troy are facing multiple felony charges following an explosion at their home last month. 22-year-old Colton Cissell is facing the most serious charges including involuntary manslaughter, while two others are facing charges of child endangerment.

Drivers using the Clark Bridge at Alton will need to keep an eye out for lane restrictions starting Monday. The Illinois Department of Transportation says routine bridge inspections will take place this week meaning temporary lane closures during the inspections. Workers will be on the scene starting Monday at 7am weather permitting.

The 37 th Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair is coming back to Pere Marquette State Park this Saturday. It runs from 10am to 4pm and offers free activities, entertainment, and prizes for the kids. There will be catch-and-release fishing, bow fishing, a 4,000-gallon aquarium, much more.

Alton Police are stepping up patrols around city parks following complaints from residents and park commissioners. Officers will be on the lookout for anyone in city parks after hours, gambling or the use of gaming devices, littering or leaving garbage outside of trash cans, or any activity that violates city ordinances.
