This summer has seen the demise of thousands of trees due to the polyphagous shothole borer (PSHB) beetle. Dead or dying English oaks and London planes have become a familiar sight across the southern suburbs, with trees in the city centre and the northern suburbs now also showing the tell-tale signs of PSHB infection (brown leaves, bare branches, and weeping holes in the bark). As there is no treatment, the majority of these infected trees will die and have to be chopped down.
