Classic rock was alive and very well at Indianapolis' Everwise Amphitheater on August 24, as Kansas and Deep Purple teamed up for an impressive evening of progressive rock, hard rock and enduring hits. It's been many years since I've seen Kansas, most likely back in the Steve Walsh days. I believe my last time seeing Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore was still in the band. Both bands brought back a lot of memories.

Lyle Lovett returned to Nashville, Indiana and brought his distinctive blend of country, jazz, swing, folk and blues to the Brown County Music Center on July 17, delivering the kind of sophisticated yet thoroughly entertaining performance that has made him one of American music's most enduring characters. Backed by his exceptional Large Small Band, Lovett moved easily between humorous, offbeat material and deeply affecting songs, with his relaxed Texas drawl providing a perfect counterpoint to the band's polished arrangements. “Here I Am,” “L.A. Freeway,” “She's No Lady” and “If I Had a Boat” were among the highlights, while “Stand by Your Man” provided one of the evening's more playful moments. Lyle's band included Jim Cox on piano, James Harrah on guitar, the legendary Leland Sklar on bass, Russ Kunkel on drums, Mace Hibbard on saxophones and Amy Keys on background vocals.
