Police on Wednesday night evacuated Democratic lawmakers from the DNC headquarters in Washington as the demonstration turned violent. Officers tried to hold back about 150 people who U.S. Capitol Police say were “illegally and violently demonstrating” while calling for a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Protesters blamed the police for the violence. Six officers were treated for injuries, and police arrested at least one person. During the incident, police rushed Democratic lawmakers into the basement for safety, said Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif. The protest came one day after a massive, peaceful rally of pro-Israel demonstrators at the National Mall.

Jason Eaton’s attorneys on Monday entered pleas of not guilty on his behalf to three counts of attempted second-degree murder. He was ordered held without bail. Police arrested Eaton, 48, on Sunday in the city of Burlington after federal agents found a gun in his apartment. Authorities have accused him of shooting three 20-year-old men on Saturday night near the University of Vermont campus. The young men are of Palestinian descent and were wearing black-and-white keffiyeh scarves at the time of the shooting. The Justice Department was investigating whether it was a hate crime, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said Monday.

Youth with a Mission, a global evangelism ministry, is mourning 11 of its students and staff who died in a bus crash on Saturday in Arusha, Tanzania. Julie McLaughlin is a media liaison for YWAM Kona, YWAM’s base in Hawaii. She told WORLD that the students were returning to Arusha from a field trip for the school’s Executive Masters in Global Pioneering Leadership program, a program for students of college age or older. A large truck hit one of the two minibusses carrying the group back from training. “It’s kind of a miracle that anyone survived,” she said.

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari on Tuesday said “over 450” United Nations Relief and Works Agency contractors were involved in Hamas’ war against Israel. “This is systematic,” he said. “There is no claiming: ‘We didn’t know.” The IDF said the UNRWA workers had been involved in the Oct. 7 attacks which killed roughly 1,200 Israelis, and are operatives for the Hamas terrorist organization.
