PHILADELPHIA -- Zack Wheeler was almost off the mound by the time Don Mattingly reached out his hand to take the baseball. The Phillies' ace, the highest-paid pitcher in the sport, did not wait Wednesday night. He handed it off, like a quarterback to his running back, and marched to the dugout in the fifth inning. The fans treated Wheeler to a loud ovation, despite the pitcher's streak of 53 consecutive starts with at least five innings pitched ending.
