Editor’s Note: Anyone who says there isn’t good music coming out these days — and quite literally, every day — simply isn’t paying attention. Vanyaland’s new compilation feature The V List highlights the best in new music over the past month, pulling together the sounds that have soundtracked the website in recent weeks from our wide-ranging series of features. It’s all the stuff we’re bumping here at Vanyaland HQ, one new bop at a time.

There’s a been a lot of discussion lately about indie musicians and their survival in a fucked up music industry. From streaming sites paying fraction of a pennies to the soaring cost of touring, the decks are stacked to anyone out there making a proper go of it. And that doesn’t even get into the sketchy shit bands have to deal with day in and day out, crawling from city to city to showcase their sounds.

Any day with new music from Charly Bliss is a good one, a day with a new Charly Bliss single that we’re pretty sure we’ll be listening to for a long time makes the day that much better. The Brooklyn indie-pop band returns today (May 1) in grand fashion with a sweeping new single called “Nineteen,” and it finds Eva Hendricks and the boys reflecting back on young love. It’s one hell of a tune, and feels like a creative peak is on the horizon (which is not too shabby for a band that wrote 2019’s

A few short weeks ago, Cloud Nothings released a new album called Final Summer via Pure Noise, and without bothering to research what that title may suggest, we’re just gonna assume its another indicator of the inevitable oncoming societal collapse. So it’s probably a good excuse to leave home on a Monday night (May 6) and catch the enduring and tested Cleveland band as they play Crystal Ballroom in Somerville.

Steve Albini, the legendary and prolific producer, engineer, and musician responsible for some of the most influential rock albums in music history, has died. He was 61.

After conquering the United Kingdom a few times over, Holly Humberstone has (finally) set her sights on America. The rising English songwriter, who released new album Paint My Bedroom Black last fall, crosses the Atlantic for a white-hot 15-date spring tour, dubbed The Holly Humberstone Show, that includes a twirl tonight (May 9) at The Paradise Rock Club in Boston.

It has been an exciting year, so far, for Julia Holter. The Los Angeles singer-songwriter, record producer, composer, artist, and academic in March released new album Something in the Room She Moves, out via Domino, and word of it first arrived alongside a hypnotic single called “Spinning” and news of a spring tour that finally arrives tonight (May 15) at Brighton Music Hall in Allston.
