Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners, at their regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 20, heard a presentation about the new Cultural Interface sculptures located at the south end of Little Bay.
The driver of this pickup was killed early Sunday morning after veering off Broadway Street, hitting a fence, and then careening into the canal leading into the Harbor Oaks subdivision.
Work has begun on the Rockport Harbor Seawall project. It should be completed by the end of March, according to Aransas County Navigation District Harbor Master Keith Barrett. A new hot mix roadway will be poured along the Seawall, as well, in addition to work to shore up the seawall. ACND commissioners approved the additional paving work at their Jan. 17 meeting. Funding for the additional paving, which will extend out to the dotted line shown, bottom photo, is not covered by FEMA. It will be paid with ACND reserves. The contractor has finished sealing some of the seams in the vertical panels of the bulkhead. The next step is doing cap repairs in some areas. Barrett said he wishes the project would include new rock placed along the length of the seawall (like it is along the recently completed breakwater), as well as a new concrete cap on the entire seawall, but FEMA did not approve that work. “It will still be better than it was before Hurricane Harvey,” he said. Construction on the new Aquarium at Rockport Harbor will begin once this project is completed.
