ALHARETTA, GA — Police are reminding residents in one metro Atlanta city to be on alert after a recent uptick in bear sightings.

Residents and motorists should expect a significant law enforcement presence in the area.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the shooting, officials added.

Transportation officials are warning drivers to expect major delays across metro Atlanta and use alternate routes during the closure scheduled in June.

The agency said older fare cards will no longer be compatible with the new system once implementation takes effect this weekend.

Officials said more than 230 CDC personnel are currently involved in the response effort.

Beginning Friday and continuing through Monday, June 1, two right lanes will be closed in both directions on I-285 from South Cobb Drive to Hollowell Parkway.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

A resident’s 911 call also helped deputies locate a third suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
