Detective Inspector Mark Steel of ACT Policing said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene after a car “ploughed into a group of five cyclists” on Gungahlin Drive in Palmerston.

Police allege that at around 8 am a 52yo bike rider was stopped by a group of five youths before being threatened and knocked off his bike. After a tussle, he managed to get back on the bike and ride away, but lost his mobile phone in the process.

The laws came into effect on August 31, with anyone caught riding without a learner’s or driver’s licence liable to be fined $518.
