NEWPORT NEWS — A site on Jefferson Avenue in the city's southeast community that's housed Black-owned businesses for about a century has received state recognition as a historic landmark.
The work is part of an ongoing multiyear $1 billion capital improvement project to expand and update the airport's facilities, infrastructure and passenger amenities.
Stretching roughly from Corolla south to Sea Level in Carteret County, NC 12 is the main transportation link for thousands of year-round Outer Banks residents and millions of annual visitors. Hurricanes, nor'easters and increasingly, the natural daily movement of wind and water are causing more frequent flooding, erosion, overwash and sand deposits that result in road closures.
MacArthur Center's closing adds another name to the list of former malls that have been transformed — or are in the process of being redeveloped — into something else.
