The Solano County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 on Tuesday to direct staff to consider increasing taxes on energy companies operating wind turbines, Battery Energy Storage Systems, natural gas extraction, and solar power. The tax would require ratification by voters at the November ballot this year. The board also voted to consider placing a measure that would raise the county's Transient Occupancy Tax from five percent to 12 percent in the unincorporated area.

Solano County's economy is projected to add more than 1,200 jobs annually during the next four years, driven largely by healthcare and life sciences, even as manufacturing demand softens, housing values decline and population growth remains sluggish.

The Vacaville City Council hosted its final budget study session for the upcoming fiscal year on Tuesday evening, preparing a draft budget for final approval at the June 23 council meeting later this month. City Manager Savita Chaudhary said the city has been working hard to draft the budget and accommodate the flat 2.5% reduction across each city department since January.
