Speaker Mike Johnson and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise will meet with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, as the GOP in both chambers seeks to plot their sometimes at-odds agendas. The two House leaders are expected to address Senate Republicans’ retreat, a series of policy and political meetings in Washington, according to two people familiar with the itinerary. Johnson and Scalise will then travel to West Virginia for the House GOP’s own retreat. The bicameral moves come as the party plots a course toward the election. But there is still much unresolved: The House GOP hasn’t taken up the Senate’s bipartisan foreign aid bill, and Senate Republicans are wary of passing the House’s bipartisan tax package. What’s more, the next government funding deadline looms at the end of next week.
