Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says Jamaica’s investment in modern healthcare infrastructure must be matched by a renewed commitment to compassionate patient care, warning that improved facilities alone cannot guarantee better health outcomes.

Construction of the $642-million outpatient department at May Pen Hospital is progressing on schedule and remains on track for completion next year, a development expected to expand healthcare services, increase bed capacity, and create more than 180 jobs in Clarendon.

May Pen Hospital in Clarendon is seeing improvements in patient management, data collection and decision-making since the introduction of the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ electronic health records system, according to Senior Medical Officer Dr Curtis Pryce.
