THE Magic Mist Service Ltd has lost the contract for the cleaning of the North Central Regional Health Authority.

OPPOSITION LEADER Pennelope Beckles said the focus of the PNM in 2026 is preparation and renewal. She said the party's objective is to restore public confidence in government and ensure that national resources are managed in the best interest of all citizens.

PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she has mandated every cabinet minister and government agency that 2026 must be a year of economic rebuilding, recovery and delivery. She said TT enters 2026 with renewed confidence, clear direction and a strong sense of responsibility.

OPPOSITION LEADER Pennelope Beckles said any discussion surrounding potential maxi taxi fare increases along the Priority Bus Route must be approached with care, compassion, and a clear understanding of the realities facing working people. She called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to meet with the Maxi Taxi Association.

THE Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL) said that in 2026 it will be launching a new wave of donor engagement through the FEEL 1000 Club, a growing network of individuals and corporate entities committed to sustaining the organisation's mission.

DR AMERY BROWNE said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has established herself as the worst PM in the history of Trinidad and Tobago. He said in the history of TT, he had never seen a population distance itself so quickly from a government.

TT Unified Teachers Association president Crystal Ashe said over 100 business operations assistants (BoAs) have not been paid since their contracts expired at the end of November. He said this is concerning with schools set to reopen on Monday, as these workers are integral to the running of these institutions.

The TTPS said investigations are ongoing into the deaths of a US citizen and a baby which occurred on January 1 in separate incidents.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the public's behaviour will determine future changes with respect to a ban on fireworks and the revision of fines for traffic offences. She said her government is committed to working with law-abiding citizens to fix the country.

THE Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry said the recently introduced increase in toll rates will not immediately apply to maxi taxi operators, as the majority would have renewed in October 2025 for the 2026 period. It said as a result, the toll rate adjustment will not affect these operators until their 2027 renewal period in October.
