Less than 48 hours after an EF2 tornado tore through part of Maysville, residents traded chainsaws and generators for Christmas lights, fake snow and a holiday parade.Dozens of people bundled up in sweaters, scarves and Santa hats Friday night to appear as extras in "All That Glitters at Christmas," a movie that has transformed downtown Maysville into a winter wonderland in the middle of June."I got this for a costume party five or six years ago, and so it's a great chance to get out and celebrate Christmas with a lot of other people in June," said Mark Tabler, who came dressed in holiday attire to participate in filming.The festive scene unfolding downtown was a stark contrast to what many in Maysville experienced just a day earlier.The National Weather Service confirmed Friday that an EF-2 tornado touched down southwest of Maysville during severe storms that moved through the area Thursday. Residents along Maple Leaf Road spent much of the day cleaning up debris, checking on neighbors and waiting for power to be restored.Leah Frederick said her electricity had only been back on for about two hours before she headed downtown to take part in the movie parade."I am wearing a hat primarily because my electric was off until about two hours ago," Frederick said, jokingly. Still, many residents welcomed the chance to take a break from storm recovery and enjoy a little holiday cheer."I came to see the action. Lights, cameras, action!" said Maysville resident Mary Cooper. "I love Christmas movies."The movie, produced by Turning Point, follows a couple falling in love during the holiday season. Filmmakers selected Maysville for its picturesque downtown and have spent weeks decorating storefronts, creating snow-covered scenes and filming throughout the city.Fortunately, downtown Maysville escaped the worst of Thursday's storms."We lost a few ornaments, had to do a little restructuring with the snow, but for the most part nothing was seriously damaged like other parts of town," said Shannon Mann with Turning Point.Mann said cast and crew members have been thinking about residents still dealing with the storm's aftermath."We've been praying for all the other people who lost power and have downed trees and had damage to their buildings and their homes," she said.For a community still picking up the pieces, the unexpected arrival of Christmas in June offered a welcome distraction."It's behind us," Frederick said. "It's a great community. They're rebuilding again. Everybody shows up for one another. So it's wonderful."Filming in Maysville is expected to continue through early July. Producers say "All That Glitters at Christmas" is expected to be released during the upcoming holiday season.
