Today and Wednesday: A storm system over the Ohio Valley will push warm, humid air into the region, bringing scattered showers and storms this afternoon and evening.

Central Alabama is under a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening. While this is the lowest category on the severe scale, it still means a few storms could pack a punch — with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat.

As of Wednesday evening, a cluster of storms is beginning to develop over Arkansas & weather Tennessee. Should these hold together, this becomes our rain threat and it will come early in the day. Rough timing puts a line near HWY 278 by 7 AM, working south towards the metro by 9 AM and eventually south of Clanton around noon. Being in the morning, the severe threat is relatively low, the atmosphere will be stable with little to no time for daytime heating. Early rain would likely lead to a dry afternoon, highs 83-88.

Central Alabama is on alert as weather conditions are set to shift dramatically, with the potential for dense fog this morning and a looming heat wave next week.
