Kentucky State Police Post 2 is investigating a deadly crash in Muhlenberg County that claimed three lives Saturday, June 28th. Troopers say the collision happened at the intersection of U.S. 431 and Power Plant Road. According to the preliminary investigation, 35-year-old Whitney Duarte of Central City was driving a Nissan sedan southbound on U.S. 431 when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Ford pickup. The truck was driven by 56-year-old Kevin Latham of Bremen, with 67-year-old Joey Watkins of Central City as a passenger. The Muhlenberg County Coroner pronounced all three dead at the scene.
Daviess County woman is facing multiple charges after deputies say a traffic stop turned into a pursuit Sunday night. The Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped a black 2009 Mercury Milan around 9:42 p.m. after it ran a stop sign near Worthington and West 5th Street Road. Investigators say the driver, 50-year-old Tonya Baize of Owensboro, showed signs of impairment, then sped away before stopping on Green Briar Street and running on foot. A deputy tackled her in a yard, where she allegedly resisted arrest. Baize was treated for minor injuries, then booked on charges including fleeing police, DUI third offense, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and a felony probation violation warrant.

Daviess County authorities say an Owensboro teen has been arrested after a Sunrise Drive home was vandalized and several items were stolen while the homeowners were away for the Fourth of July weekend. Deputies say 18-year-old Brayden Jayce Markwell is accused of taking a 2008 Dodge Ram, two handguns, prescription medication, and smart watches. Investigators say the stolen truck was later tied to a hit-and-run in Owensboro and a serious crash in Breckenridge County. Three watches were reportedly found inside the vehicle. A 17-year-old Owensboro girl was also charged and released to a guardian. The investigation remains open, with more charges possible.
A 27-year-old Owensboro man is facing multiple charges after an overnight pursuit in Daviess County. Deputies say Jonathan S. Martinez was seen driving recklessly near East 5th and Crittenden Streets around 12:33 a.m. Monday. When a deputy tried to stop him, the vehicle sped away, later going airborne after crossing railroad tracks on JR Miller Boulevard and crashing near Green River Appliance Company. Authorities say Martinez ran from the car but was tackled and arrested on Daviess Street. Deputies report suspected methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle. Martinez was treated for minor injuries before being booked into the Daviess County Detention Center.
