Kolkata: The latest delimitation exercise in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area has triggered one of the biggest reworkings of the city’s civic map, with the number of wards set to rise from 144 to 209. The addition of 65 wards has not only redrawn boundaries across the city but also pushed several well-known south Kolkata neighbourhoods into ward numbers that were once associated with areas added to the KMC in later phases.

KMC assessee number may change after delimitation

Kolkata: Following the delimitation exercise, the assessee numbers of more than 9 lakh property taxpayers in Kolkata will change as the ward numbers to which the assessee numbers are linked are undergoing a major rejig following the addition of 65 new wards. However, civic officials have assured citizens that the transition will be smooth and that the civic body will assign new assessee numbers when the tax bills are generated next March-April.
