Man allegedly rapes 14-year-old at church playground: police by Sally Hu Wed, December 13th 2023, 9:48 PM GMT+1 Playground (file image - NOT the playground discussed in the article) LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Annville Police were called after a 14-year-old told her grandmother that she had been raped by their adult neighbor, Jonathan Service, on May 17, earlier that evening. At the time, the victim had been at the playground of Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren, located in South Annville Township in Lebanon County, according to the criminal complaint. At the time, she was at the playground playing with his step-son and 3-year-old daughter. Her grandmother then took the victim to Hershey Medical Center for a SANE exam, which was conducted along with a sexual assault kit in the early morning hours of May 18. A detective with the Annville Police was called in to interview the alleged rapist, Jonathan Service, on May 18. Service admitted that he was at the church playground with the victim on May 17, but denied anything criminal happened, according to the complaint. Service gave police a DNA sample and let them swab his mouth. The victim went in for an interview at UPMC's Child Advocacy Center (CAC) on June 9 for a forensic interview. According to documents, during this interview the victim recounted how the suspect touched her inappropriately, assaulted her, then raped her. The victim also mentioned that Service had inappropriately touched her with they were both in a swimming pool the last summer. According to the affidavit, Service was 42 during the church incident, and the victim was 14 years old--making her just 13 when he touched her in the swimming pool. On September 13, 2023, police received a lap report from PSP Forensic Services comparing the samples from the victim and the suspect. Reports confirm that the DNA samples did match. On November 30, 2023, Service came to the Annville Police Station for an interview. During the interview, Service insisted that the victim came on to him and was kissing him all over. He then told police that she said she wanted to have sex in the woods, but according to the affidavit, he said he didn't want to because of his young daughter--plus he knew it was wrong. Service claimed that the victim touched him then touched herself, and that must be how the DNA transfered. On December 4, the Lebanon County Senior Deputy District Attorney reviewed this investigation. The next day she ordered charges against Jonathan Service. Jonathan Service has been charged with the following felony offenses: Rape Forcible Compulsion Rape Threat Of Forcible Compulsion Aggressive Indecent Assault without Consent Criminal Attempt - Aggressive Indecent Assault - Forcible Compulsion Statutory Sexual Assault: older than 11 years Indecent Assault Person Less 16 Yrs Age Unlawful Contact With Minor (Sexual Offenses) Corruption Of Minors Criminal Attempt - IDSI Forcible Compulsion Criminal Attempt - IDSI Threat Forcible Compulsion He is currently being held at Lebanon County Correctional Facility on a $200,000 bail.
