JSE-listed poultry and animal feed producer Rainbow Chicken recorded a 7.7% year-on-year increase in revenue to R17.1-billion for the financial year ended June 28, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) increased by 101.8% year-on-year to R2.13-billion. Earnings for the year increased by 134.8% to R1.34-billion. The company also reported increased cash and cash-equivalents of R2.4-billion, up from R1.8-billion in the prior financial year.

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) says it is investigating new reports of sardines washing ashore and has secured samples to test for Pilchard herpesvirus (PHV). Isolated sightings of sardine mortality events were reported at Bakoven, in the Western Cape, and off Tsitsikamma, in the Eastern Cape. On August 27, there were widespread reports of sardines washing ashore around Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, and floating offshore and within the harbour.

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has requested the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to impose provisional measures of up to 28.11% on imports of colour-coated steel from China for a period of six months. These provisional measures were implemented by SARS on August 28, the Itac says.
