The 20th year of Main Street Live (MSL) is on the back stretch as local bluegrass band Center Hill Ramblers takes the stage at the West Lawn of Security Federal Savings Bank Friday night. The show will be the sixth in the eight-week summer concert series presented by Main Street McMinnville.

There's a long-standing lament in Warren County which I've never quite understood. Every time there is mention of a new restaurant in Warren County, invariably someone will make the rather tired joke about the area having entirely too many Mexican restaurants. In fact, my predecessor on the Business Pulse page often liked to perpetuate that perception himself. And I'm sure when this article is posted on the Southern Standard Facebook page this weekend, many of the comments will be more of the same.

Main Street McMinnville (MSM) recently held its annual meeting to discuss the progress the group has made, plans for the future and to elect officers for the upcoming year. Awards were also bestowed.

Welcome to what the Tennessee Press Association has deemed the third-best business coverage in the state of Tennessee in our division. For the second year in a row, I finished only behind The Knoxville Ledger and The Nashville Ledger in the annual TPA awards held Friday. I guess that's pretty good company.

While we're still in the dog days of summer, it's not too early to start preparations for the Warren County A&L Fair and the pageants which accompany the nine-day event.

Warren Arts and the Park Theater held their second Kids Drama Camp of the summer last week. Sixty-two children took part. The week's activities culminated in a Saturday afternoon performance written and choreographed by Meah Sewell which drew a large crowd of family, friends and supporters to the historic theater.

My colleague Jeffery Simmons wrote a lovely column in Sunday's Southern Standard touting his win as best sportswriter in Group III at last Friday's Tennessee Press Association (TPA) awards in Franklin. He certainly has reason to be proud. The TPA awards are basically the Super Bowl for Tennessee newspapers, so it's a big deal any time you can earn a TPA award.

Main Street Live (MSL) is set to close out its 20th year at the West Lawn of Security Federal Savings Bank tonight with a rousing performance from Utopia. The free summer concert series presented by Main Street McMinnville (MSM) concludes tonight with a Back to School Bash designed to help with the not-always-welcome transition from summer to school.
