The “extended summer” that we have been enjoying for the past couple of weeks will soon come to an end. We’ll have one more day of above-average highs in the 80s on Saturday. A cold front will move through late Saturday, knocking high temperatures into the fall-like upper 60s by Sunday. Perfect timing, too. Fall begins Sunday morning at 7:43am. In addition to cooler temperatures, this front could trigger a few isolated showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and night. Longer-range models are hinting at plenty of sunshine with highs in the 70s through most of next week.
The dry, pleasant weather we have been enjoying is going to continue for quite some time. The rest of this week will be mostly sunny, with temperatures climbing back into the upper 70s to low 80s by mid to late week. Long-range models hint at a few scattered showers by the weekend; however, the weekend is still expected to be mostly dry with above-average temps.
Sunny, warm weather will continue through the rest of the week, the weekend and beyond. Starting Wednesday and continuing through the weekend, high temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, which is 5 to 10 degrees above average for this time of year. Our longer-range models are suggesting a slight bump in rain chances by early next week, but at this point there is no indication of significant measurable rain anywhere in our future.
My daily weather blurb is going to be short today because I’m running out of creative ways to say it’s going to be sunny and warmer than average. That’s it. Lots of sunshine and dry conditions with high temperatures around 10 degrees above average through the rest of this week into the upcoming weekend. We are anticipating a cold front that will drop highs back into the 60s by early next week, but moisture is very limited, and I do not expect anything in the way of measurable rain through at least the next 10 days.
It sure doesn’t feel like it, but we are almost one month into meteorological fall. If you’re wondering about these summerlike temperatures in September, you’re not alone. So far this September, our average temperature in the Mankato/North Mankato area is 67.5 degrees. That is 4.6 degrees warmer than our average September temperature of 62.9 degrees. This has been a trend, and it continues. Across the US, fall has warmed by an average of 2.5 degrees since 1970.
We have more sunny, warm days ahead thanks to an area of high pressure that will remain parked over the upper Midwest through the weekend. Our average high temperature for this time of year is around 70 degrees, but highs will climb into the low 80s through Monday. After that, a cold front will move across the region, bringing our temperatures back to more seasonal levels just in time to kick off the month of October. In addition to the warm temperatures, the low humidity, combined with the recent lack of rainfall, could lead to an elevated grassland fire danger risk for parts of our region over the next several days.
Summertime in September will continue throughout the upcoming weekend with sunshine and temperatures more typical of June. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 80s through Monday, with comfortable overnight lows in the 50s. A cold front will bring cooler, more seasonal temperatures by early next week. Given the lack of moisture, I don’t expect any rain with that front. In fact, long-range models suggest we’ll stay dry throughout the entire 10 Day Forecast period.
The warm, dry, summerlike weather pattern we have been experiencing for the past couple of weeks will continue for the foreseeable future. While there will be a couple of fall-feeling days here and there, most days on the 10 Day Forecast have temperatures that are well above average for this time of year. Our next big temperature roller coaster ride will happen courtesy of a cold front this weekend. Saturday will be sunny, windy, and very warm followed by a much cooler, fall-like day on Sunday.
Temperatures will continue to climb this week, but a cold front will bring more seasonal temperatures to our area by this weekend and early next week. Although we are expecting a couple of cold fronts over the next week or so, rain chances will likely be limited to northern Minnesota, keeping us bone dry throughout the entire 10 Day Forecast period.
