Update as of July 8, 2026: According to updated reporting, the number of employees laid off from id Software has now hit at least 136.

A new report from Bloomberg sheds more light on what is going on at Obsidian Entertainment in the wake of the mass layoffs that impacted all XBOX studios in some capacity this week. We know already that roughly 25% of Obsidian employees were laid off this week. Due to these extensive layoffs, several projects have been canceled.

It has been one hell of a week for XBOX owned studios. Around 1,600 employees have been laid off, with the promise of another 1,600 layoffs to come in the months ahead. One of those studios, id Software, was apparently one of the hardest hit with a reported 50% of the studio laid off.

A familiar face has a new, more prominent role alongside new challenges, a community event, customization features, and a rework of both Escalation and Invasion.

A new four-player co-op horror game from Nacon and ACE Team is now available on PC and consoles. The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu places you in the worn footwear of an explorers during the Conquistador era, venturing forth into an uncharted continent.

KAZ is said to be a game that is "easy to pick up, hard to master, and impossible to put down." This is a new roguelike from developer Kalinarm and publisher Hakuro that just hit Steam today. It features "trancelike visuals, a thumping interactive soundtrack, and grid-based gameplay."

Timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the franchise.
