For this episode of “Island Interviews,” KUCB’s Sofia Stuart-Rasi sat down with AVO's Hannah Dietrich and Michelle Coombs during their trip to Unalaska in early June.

A repair vessel, the Cable Innovator, arrived near Chignik Bay on June 7, and crews started pulling the damaged cable up from the ocean floor, according to Josh Edge, GCI’s communications manager.

Approximately 1,200 tons of scrap metal and about 250 vehicles are on a barge to leave Unalaska.

GCI had expected repairs to be finished on June 12, but weather conditions pushed back the work.
