I recently took possession of an e-bike a friend of mine is sellling, albeit on a temporary basis, in order to take it for a spin before deciding whether to fork out my cash.

I was going to sarcastically write that I hope the morons who attacked the young female Chinese tourist in Princes Street Gardens last Friday are proud of themselves but on reflection, I think, sadly, that they probably are.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it is difficult to dismiss the points raised by chartered engineer, Iain Masterton, in yesterday’s Evening News, of what seems to be legitimate issues surrounding what he says is a lack of foresight by senior managers of our tram company.

Last week I drove my son to Ullapool where he was joining a mate before tackling a couple of Munros in the area.

The partial closure of Princes Street continues to disrupt our transport system, with trams only running from Shandwick Place to the airport and bus diversions along George Street, with the projected date for reopening now the end of this month – although I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Monday’s front page of this newspaper predicted that Edin-burgh’s proposed new tram route was dead in the water.

Around 30 years ago when I was visiting Kyiv, I was approached by the director of a theatre company who wanted to ask me about Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival.

If ever more proof were needed that Putin is out to eradicate Ukraine, not only from the map, but from history, we need look no further than Russia’s targeting of printing presses and publishing houses.
