Katy resident Sonya Polydor was joined by family members who traveled to Katy, as well as several members of Katy First Methodist Church, for the opening of the Wiley/Kelly wall exhibit at the Johnny Nelson Museum on June 19. The exhibit of historic photos from the Wiley/Kelly families, headed by Polydor’s mother and family matriarch Odell Marie Polydor Watkins Wiley, joins other Katy family displays at the museum at 6002 George Bush Drive in Katy. Polydor’s grandfather, Tom Kelly is pictured in the adjacent display about the Tucker family. He worked for T. B. and Jessie Tucker and Richard Barker from 1930 to 1975, after coming to Katy from Louisiana.

Katy ISD Chief Financial Officer Chris Smith delivered good news to the KISD board of trustees at its June 15 work study meeting: a budget adjustment of $34 million in the district’s favor, thanks to recalculations in the property tax value audit, restoring money that would have been received in the 2023-2024 school year. The one-time adjustment will move the current 2025-2026 budget from a $19 million deficit to a $6.8 million surplus, Smith said.

The annual Juneteenth festival hosted by the Katy African American Heritage Society kicked off with a parade down Danover Street to Woodsland Park on June 20, featuring members of area churches, fraternities and sororities, as well as politicians -- and many beautiful Corvettes. The City of Katy was represented in the parade by a high-water rescue vehicle carrying Mayor Dusty Thiele and councilmembers Paula Taylor, Michael Meihls and Paul Follis. Thiele officially opened the event with welcoming remarks and was followed by a number of political hopefuls who urged attendees to get out and vote. The event featured a number of local vendors offering food, drink and resources.

A team of two from That 1 Painter Fort Bend County contributed over ten hours of work each, painting the walls and ceiling of a Cimarron home damaged by Hurricane Harvey. The June 19 project was accomplished through collaboration with local nonprofit Katy Responds.

Grundfos officials from around the world join with local leaders at 902 Koomey Road in Brookshire for a groundbreaking ceremony on June 24. The manufacturer of advanced pump solutions and water technologies is adding a new 143,000-sq.ft. building which will expand its production capacities as well as serving as the company’s new U.S. headquarters. The facility is scheduled for completion in 2027.
