Top seeds in conference tournaments have had a weirdly difficult time making it to the championship games this week, but UNC has taken care of business against Florida State and Pittsburgh to make it to tonight’s game against NC State. Not many people expected the Wolfpack to be here, but they’ve ran the gauntlet of winning four games in four days to reach the championship.

UNC couldn’t find enough offense or enough defense to wrestle the ACC Tournament championship away from a hungry NC State team on Saturday night in Washington DC. The Tar Heels fell behind early and never found a way to get into a groove on either end of the floor on their way to a 84-76 loss.

Carolina gets their first action of the NCAA Tournament this afternoon in Charlotte when they take on 16-seed Wagner. The Seahawks battled Howard in the First Four in order to make it to today, and they come in having won four in a row.

UNC simply had too much size and too many bodies for Wagner as the Tar Heels came away with a win in their first NCAA Tournament action in Charlotte. The Seahawks, playing with just seven players, dealt with foul trouble and the lack of an answer for Armando Bacot inside, allowing Carolina to pull away in the second half on their way to the 90-62 win.

UNC is heading to the Sweet Sixteen after rallying from down 12 points in the first half to beat Michigan State 85-69 in Charlotte. The Tar Heels withstood a tough first punch from the Spartans to collect themselves and finish the first half on a 23-3 run to put healthy distance between them and their opponent that they did not relinquish.

UNC takes on Alabama tonight in their Sweet Sixteen matchup in Los Angeles. Carolina made it to this point by beating Wagner and Michigan State in Charlotte before heading out west as the region’s top seed.

UNC fell short in their Sweet Sixteen game against Alabama on Thursday night, thanks largely to an awful second half that followed a brilliant first half. Carolina had a 54-46 lead at halftime, but ultimately dropped the game 89-87.

RJ Davis is reportedly coming back to UNC for a fifth season in 2024, according to reports. The Tar Heel guard has a Covid year that allows him to use an additional year of eligibility, and it sounds like Davis has chosen to do just that.
