The G7 summit continued in France, with Ukraine taking centre stage. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders to once again highlight the need for an end to Russia’s offensive. Trump told reporters he believed both sides were “open to doing something about the war” and that “Russia should make a deal.” Zelensky reportedly offered to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit, but the Kremlin has repeatedly dismissed the idea of holding direct talks outside of Moscow.

In an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street Monday, Starmer told reporters every decision he’s taken “has been about putting the country I love first,” which is why he is choosing to step down as leader of the Labour Party. The decision now sets the U.K. up for its seventh prime minister in just ten years. Britain’s economy has been stuck in neutral and the Labour Party’s popularity has slumped in opinion polls. All eyes are now on Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, who is expected to launch a bid for the party’s leadership.
