Parents flocked to social media to express their anger last week after new rule changes were implemented at Cowes Enterprise College, one of which toilets are closed during break and lunchtimes, with shutters put down to restrict access. It has even been claimed that toilet passes, given to those with a medical condition, have been made void – but this is something the school has rebutted. Other contentious changes include the use of alarms and music to restrict pupil movements, strict lunchtime and break rules, and being escorted to lessons.

The Day Lewis Pharmacy, on Newport High Street, has once again fallen victim to a break-in – the fourth since May. The latest incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday. Police were called at around 1.30am after a window was smashed. When officers arrived, they found broken glass scattered inside the shop and a brick lying on the floor. It is not yet clear if anything was stolen, and no arrests had been made at the time of going to print.
