As the 2025 Rebuilding Day is now in the books it's time to plan for 2026. Starting in July, applications will be available for the 2026 Rebuilding Day. We are encouraging churches, community organizations, friends, contractors, retailers, and just plain concerned neighbors to recommend those homeowners in need to apply for Rebuilding Day. The process in selecting recipients starts with vetting ownership of the property and evaluation of finances. In November, the Home Selection Committee will visit the sites and evaluate our ability to consider the needed repairs based on our ability to undertake the scope of repairs given our budget at the time, as well as a point score including all factors involved.

While we wait for the first snow of the season to spread across the mountains, we look forward to seeing family and friends, and the consuming of good foods followed by the obligatory belt loosening that comes with it. In 1994, a mountain contractor and his wife went to Los Angeles to check out this volunteer program that helped low-income homeowners make repairs to their homes. This simple act of kindness brought forth a mountain organization that joined other Rebuilding Together chapters forming a national non-profit and Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities was born. Today, 30+ years later, that spirit of giving back to the community seems to be on life support, as we have not been able to recruit just two more contractors to be house captains on the three homes that we are doing this year. This cannot stand, as it is a legacy to the earlier generation of local contractors and must be supported to preserve those who gave their time to the initial acts of kindness.
