A standing-room-only crowd showed up to voice their disapproval of a proposed 130 single family residential development near Bay Road and Freewoods Road in the Burgess Community. Developers said the project will cover a little over 51 acres with lot sizes of 7,000 sq. feet. The new homes will average from $450,000 to $500,000. Dan Park of the Earthworks Group representing the developer Sampit River Investments, LLC, said the project has been in the works for nearly two years and has undergone some changes to try to appease neighbors in the area.

Patriotism, fun and good ol’ horsing around took the center ring Friday night as cowboys and cowgirls descended on a family farm to show off their rodeo prowess on horses and giant bulls. In the crowd, boots and cowboy hats on all ages, young and old, were the main attire of the evening. The Surfside Beach town council approved a one-year contract Tuesday night for town administrator Gerald Vincent. The contract takes effect Friday, May 15 through May 15, 2027. The new agreement is for $154,000 per year with no cost-of-living adjustments. Vincent also gets four weeks of annual leave or vacation time.
