We’ll soon know who the new leaders will be for the city of Sioux Falls over the next several years. Christine Erickson and Jamie Smith are in a runoff for Mayor. James Oppenheimer and Vince Danh are in the other city-wide runoff for an at-large council spot. Zak Okuwe and Zach DeBoer face each other in the Central District council race, and Sara Pankonin and Mike Crane are vying for the Southeast District Council seat.

A man named Peter and a woman named Helen are pleading guilty to two charges, including employing illegal aliens. Four people connected with the Hibachi Grill restaurant were arrested last year. There’s no word on any new developments involving the other two who were arrested.

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School board has unanimously approved opting out of property tax limitations to meet the needs of next year’s budget. But, the amount of the opt out will be smaller than last year, so the school’s portion of tax bills will be lower. Dawn Marie Johnson chaired last night’s board meeting. She says the district is required to publish the information under the heading “Notice of Tax Increase” – which calls misleading. “This reduction will lower the school tax bill by 23% on a typical home. Homeowners will not see an increase in school property taxes, they will see a decrease.”
