So far, one of the storylines of the softball season within the Eastern Connecticut Conference has revolved around Bacon Academy.

The Stonington High School girls' tennis team is 7-4 overall this season, 2-2 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I, not the traditional parade to the state championship match for the Bears but a fight for every victory.

East Lyme — East Lyme/Salem started Tuesday evening's proceedings needing to win once, yes. But then needing to win once again, or twice in one day in order to defend its District 10 Little League softball title (ages 10-12).

In the end, it was Bueckers and Fudd and their teammates who took home the 86-83 victory, led by the always-dynamic Bueckers with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Jessica Shepard with 14 points.

Old Lyme's Chase Gilbert was named The Day's 2026 All-Area Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, taking The Day's Player of the Year honors for the unprecedented 10th time during her distinguished high school career.

A Class L all-state selection, MacPherson, the 5-foot-9 whiz kid, starting at short for the Falcons since her freshman season, was named The Day's 2026 All-Area Softball Player of the Year.
