It was 736 days ago when the Michigan men’s basketball team hired coach Dusty May. In his introductory press conference, May said that he was coming into the program to compete on Day 1. In the last 736 days, the Wolverines have won a Big Ten Tournament Championship, a Big Ten Championship, made two Sweet 16 appearances, and are now embarking on the program’s first Final Four appearance since 2018.

A historic season for the Michigan women’s basketball team came to a close in Fort Worth, Texas, with a loss to No. 1 seed Texas in the Elite Eight. The 2025-26 season was remarkable for multiple reasons, both on and off the court.

Despite No. 1 Arizona also boasting one of the best front courts and interior presences in college basketball, the Wildcats had no answer for Mara — especially offensively as he put up a career-high 26 points en route to the Wolverines’ 91-73 blowout win.

INDIANAPOLIS — For the first time since 1989, Michigan is the national champion. In two seasons, Dusty May took the program from 8-24 the year before him to the pinnacle of college basketball.

Crowds flooded the sidewalks of State Street down to Yost Ice Arena. Players in the beds of pickup trucks popped confetti, threw footballs with students on the porch of their houses, signed paraphernalia thrown their way, and danced with fans lined up just feet away. Dusty May and all the coaches rode in their cars and the Michigan Marching Band wrapped things up from a fire truck.
