LINCOLN — The early morning timing of a Tuesday storm that dumped heavy rain and downed tree limbs contributed to the National Weather Service not issuing a severe thunderstorm warning as it swept through Lincoln.

On Wednesday, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department said it has identified 33 cases in the county in July, with 30 of those obtained domestically.

On Tuesday, the Douglas County Health Department said it had identified 45 confirmed cases as of Saturday, up from 27 cases reported on July 20.

South 27th Street from Franklin Street to Arlington Avenue is closed indefinitely due to the repairs, LTU announced in a news release.

The Washington Post reported Monday that the CDC planned to expand the scope of the outbreak to 15 states, adding Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

Lincoln recorded 6.78 inches, which is 3.53 above normal for July. The all-time record is 12.5.

In a news release, HHS said that 92 of Nebraska's confirmed 218 cases have been linked to the ongoing, multistate outbreak.
