The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams will live life on the road in the River Valley Conference tonight when they travel to Wilton for games with the Beavers.

This week's KCII Area Athletes of the Week are members of summer sports teams at Lone Tree. Lady Lion softball's Harper Kuboushek and Lion baseball's Jackson Lyon. Kuboushek was in the middle of the Lady Lions 9-1 rivalry win over Hillcrest Academy, finishing with two doubles, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. Lyon is a leader for Lone Tree this season with four hits, two walks and an RBI at the plate. Congratulations Harper and Jackson!

The New London Tiger baseball and softball teams visited Kalona Monday and left with a pair of Southeast Iowa Superconference wins over the Ravens.

A celebration of life for 72-year-old Clifford Eugene “Cliff” Fry will be held at Wildwood Saloon in Iowa City from 1-4p.m. Saturday, June 27th. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Washington County of Feed the Kids Mid-Prairie.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team finished last week at Wilton, dropping a back and forth affair 9-8. Mid-Prairie came into the night looking for the season sweep after beating the Beavers in both ends of a doubleheader Monday in Wellman, but it was Wilton that came out quickly, building a 4-0 advantage through three innings. The Golden Hawks big frame came in the fourth where they scored five to take the lead at 5-4. They would add on another to make it 6-4 in the fifth. Wilton's tally in the bottom half made it 6-5 after five. Two more for Mid-Prairie in the sixth made it 8-5, but the Beavers would post one in the sixth and erase the rest of the deficit in a three run seventh. Wilton out hit Mid-Prairie 15-8, Kellan Chaffee was four for four with an RBI and Oliver Grunder drove in two. Kinnick Maine went two innings with four strikeouts to get the win. The Hawks top performers at the plate were Brooks Weber and Koy Grout with two RBI, a hit, and a run scored each. Bronx Miller and Kale Miller had two hits each and Lenox Miller drove in a run. Kael Grout took the loss in two and a third with five strikeouts. The Beavers were 9-10 with the win, the Golden Hawks 8-10.

The Hillcrest Academy Boys salvaged a split and the Raven girls were beaten by Pekin in Packwood Tuesday. The boys win came in Tuesday's nightcap by an 18-16 score. The Panthers lit up the scoreboard early, leading 8-1 after two. Hillcrest made it 8-3 in the third with a pair of runs, only for the home team to get breathing room with four in the bottom half, to go on top 12-3. Hillcrest started to hammer away at the deficit, batting around in an eight run fifth to climb within 12-11. The Panthers steadied the ship for a moment with two in the bottom of five, only to see the Ravens score seven runs combined in the sixth and seventh inning. Hillcrest out hit the Panthers 14-9, Lincoln Miller had a perfect night with four hits. Calvin Meller drove in three. Danny Meyer was the winner on the mound, going four innings with four hits, five earned runs and two strikeouts. Game one was an 11-1 Panther win. It was the Panther's turn to go wire-to-wire, scoring three in the first, two more in the third, five in the fourth and another in the sixth. Pekin won the hit parade 6-2. Cal Miller was two for two and Alijah Brock had three RBI. Nolan Glick was the winning pitcher. Rylan Good and Meyer each had a Hillcrest hit. Lawson Schrock was the losing pitcher in four innings with six hits, six earned runs and two strikeouts. Raven baseball was 5-5 with the split, Pekin 9-1.

A Southeast Iowa Superconference softball contest in Riverside went Highland's way over Columbus 14-0 in four frames. The Huskies got four in the first, seven in the second and three in the third to wrap up the scoring. Highland out hit the visitors, six to four. The Huskies capitalized on nine walks. Adisyn Prottsman had two RBI, Kamryn Fink, Kinzie Ruess, Ella Schlabaugh, Katelyn Thomann and Kayce Schnoebelen each knocked in one. Fink and Ruess each scored twice. Jillian Stransky tossed four innings with two hits and six strikeouts. Audrey Hoback had two hits for Columbus, Ellie Sanders and Delta Cutler one each. Kaylee McCullough threw an inning and two thirds with two hits and two earned runs. The Huskies run their record to 9-3 while Columbus drops to 1-12.

The Sigourney baseball team made quick work of BGM in a South Iowa Cedar League win Thursday, 14-0. The Savages scored in every inning, three in the first and third, two in the second, and a six spot in the fourth. Sigourney out hit the visitors 12-1. Eight different Savages recorded a hit, led by a two hit, five RBI day, including a homer with three runs scored for Chase Clarahan. Hunter Sellers drove in three on two hits, Ryker VanDenHuevel had two RBI and Graham Moore and Landon Conrad one each. Lincoln Power scored three times, Carson Davis, Ike Molyneux, and Graham Moore twice. Conrad won on the hill with four frames, one hit and four strikeouts. The win is the third in a row for Sigourney and moves them to 14-2 on the year, BGM drops to 9-5.

Sigourney baseball and softball went to toe-to-toe with Belle Plaine on the road Friday, bringing home a South Iowa Cedar League split. It took a Savage rally, but the No. 6 team in 1A baseball got the win 5-3. Single runs for Sigourney in the second and third put them in front 2-0. The Plainesmen struck for three in the fourth to go on top by a run. The Savages didn't panic, they stayed consistent, putting up single tallies in the fifth, sixth and seventh to erase the deficit and get the win.

A memorial service for 63-year-old Charles E. “Chuck” Perrin of Washington is Wednesday, July 1st at 10:30a.m. at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30a.m. at the Jones Eden Funeral Home, prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at the Piersol Cemetery in rural North English. A general memorial has been established.
