Funeral services for 54-year-old Bradley Knepp will be Wednesday, June 18th at 10:30a.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be available via livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the Eash Cemetery north of Kalona. Family will greet friends from 4-7p.m. Tuesday, June 17th at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.

It was a win and a loss each on Saturday for the Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams when they hosted their annual Hillcrest Classics in Kalona.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team needed a bounceback, and they got it Monday with a River Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of No. 15 Wilton on the road by 4-1 and 5-0 scores. After an hour rain delay before action started, Mid-Prairie came out focused in the opener. The Hawks scored once in the second to go up 1-0 and things stayed that way until the seventh, where Mid-Prairie would post three big insurance runs on RBI hits from Conner Wiles and Blake Swart. That was more than enough for Golden Hawk senior starter Brady Weber who twirled a complete game gem, allowing just one unearned run and striking out 10. At the plate, Mid-Prairie out hit the Beavers 6-4 in total and drew three walks. Wiles drove in a pair, Blake Swart had two hits and an RBI, stealing three bags, Jason Heitman knocked in one.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team continues their tough schedule this week when they return home Tuesday to face Mount Vernon. The Golden Hawks are 4-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play after an 8-3 loss at No. 10 Wilton Monday. This is the seventh straight game for the Hawks against a team either in a class larger than them, ranked, or both. This season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .312 as a lineup with a .414OBP and slug on 71 runs, 80 hits, 61RBI, 39 walks and 41 strikeouts. Individually, three Golden Hawks are at .400 or better, led by Kadence Grout's .484 with 15 hits and 14RBI. Claire Trimpe has a team best 12 runs scored. In the circle, Alena Snider, Noami Wadsworth and Grout have a 7.34ERA, 2.28WHIP, .312 opponent average, 80 hits, 57 earned runs, 44 walks and 26 strikeouts.

The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams start the week with back-to-back nights on the diamond when they host the Pekin Panthers Tuesday.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team reached new heights in 2025 and were honored by the River Valley Conference with three selections to All-RVC teams.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team was closed out late on the road Monday by the No. 10 Wilton Beavers in an 8-3 River Valley Conference loss. The two teams traded the lead early, with Wilton up 1-0 after one, Mid-Prairie 2-1 after one and a half, the Beavers 3-2 through two and 4-2 after three. Wilton's four run sixth inning gave them an 8-2 lead and put the game away. The Hawks would score once in the seventh but it wasn't enough. Mid-Prairie was out hit 12-5 in total in the loss. The Golden Hawks drew three walks and issued two. Sophie Miller had a two hit night with an RBI. Claire Trimpe drove in one and scored once. Sophia Puttmann and Jersey Jergens each scored once, and Kadence Grout, Isabelle Litwiller and Braelee Yoder each had a hit. Grout and Alena Snider threw three innings each, combining to surrender 11 hits, six earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

It was a Monday Southeast Iowa Superconference cross over split for Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball against New London Tigers. The Raven girls were an 11-7 winner over New London/Winfield-Mt. Union. Bats on both sides were hot early with the Ravens posting a pair in the first and the Tigers answering with four in the bottom half to go up 4-2. The Raven response was five runs in the second and four more in the third to build an 11-4 advantage. The Tiger's rally fell short with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Hillcrest out hit New London/Winfield-Mt. Union 14-7 on the night and drew five walks while issuing eight. Malia Yoder powered the Ravens with four hits, including a homer and four RBI, with a pair of runs scored. Delaney Shaw and Claire Withrow each drove in two. Shaw finished with three hits. Morgyn Nafziger and Kylee Statler each had two hits and an RBI. Yoder and Ella Mize worked in the circle, combining on seven hits, four earned runs, eight walks and 10 strikeouts. Tiger leaders included Olivia Hester with two hits and an RBI. Jayda Nichols knocked in two. Kylea Schwenker took the loss in the circle, going seven with 14 hits, eight earned runs, five walks and eight strikeouts. Hillcrest was 6-9 after the win. New London is now 1-14.

Graveside services for 73-year-old Steven John “Steve” Delaney of Washington, formerly of Iowa City will be at 2p.m. Tuesday, June 24th at the Old St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials have been established for Paws and More Animal Shelter.
