Today is June 27, which just so happens to be a joyous occasion for my grandson. Owen celebrates the anniversary of his birth 12 years ago today, a fact that boggles the mind of this old guy. It simply doesn’t seem possible, but it’s yet another prime example of just how quickly time flies by.

On Monday, June 29, the Bracken County Animal Shelter (BCAS) announced that it had been awarded $10,000 through the 2026 ASPCA Rescue Effort Campaign Grant.

The above headline just popped into my cluttered mind as I sat down to attempt to hammer out a semi-coherent column on this overcast, muggy Tuesday morning. My feeble explanation for today’s headline is because of a couple of developments that caught my eye in recent days.
