In January, arena football was officially announced to return to Memphis after more than two decades, with the introduction of the Memphis Hound Dogs. Now, just months later, the team is beginning to take shape after holding its initial tryouts on April 25, featuring former Tiger stars like Cormantae Hamilton and Greg Rubin.

At Mid-South Ice House in Olive Branch, Mississippi, a year-round rink in the Mid-South, 24-year-old University of Memphis student Gabriel Hays laced up his skates for the first time, playing a sport he hadn’t grown up with.

UofM students volunteered at the Memphis Botanic Garden for their World of Plants event. The event is designed to teach children about different cultures and how they use plants in everyday life by doing fun arts and craft activities.

The University of Memphis Board of Trustees approved an increased tuition and mandatory fee at their Wednesday meeting. The increase will force in-state undergraduates that attend full-time to pay $204 more per semester starting this Fall.

The Memphis Hound Dogs earned their first win in franchise history Saturday night, defeating the Iowa Woo 50-18 in front of a nearly sold-out crowd at the Memphis Sports and Events Center in Liberty Park. As fans entered “The Kennel,” they were greeted by a hand-laid turf field stretching nearly four basketball courts in length. At midfield sat a spray-painted logo designed by local artist Toonky Berry, giving the field a unique Memphis vibe.
