According to solid reporting, Mikel Arteta really wants Arsenal to sign Riccardo Calafiori, interest the predates his breakout, to the wider football watching world, at the European Championships. While his breakout at the Euros may seem the reason for Arsenal’s pursuit of the Italian, Calafiori would fit a role that Arteta has wanted for at least two years.

Arsenal Women have completed the signing the Netherlands’ goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar from Aston Villa. While the fee was not confirmed by either club, van Domselaar was reported to have a £200,000 release clause, having joined the Midlands side last summer.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Per Romano’s tweet, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Merino, and are engaging with Real Sociedad on a fee, with a deal expected to be agreed for a fee in the region of €30m.

Despite scoring 91 goals last season, the attack is an area for Arsenal to improve.

Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out for several more weeks. Tomiyasu, who has not played a minute of pre-season, picked up an injury before the beginning of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. Speaking after Arsenal’s final pre-season game, Mikel Arteta said on Tomiyasu, “He’s going to have to be patient and work through it because I think it’s going to take a few weeks.”

Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of Rosa Kafaji from BK Häcken. Kafaji, 21, is an attacking midfield player, who has played 9 times for Sweden. She’s scored 5 goals in 10 starts in this season’s Damallsvenskan, having scored 12 goals in 24 starts last season. In the last edition of the Champions League, Kafaji scored 4 goals in 8 games as Häcken progressed to the knockout round of the competition.

Canadian forward Cloé Lacasse has departed Arsenal Women after one season, completing a permanent transfer to Utah Royals in the NWSL. Lacasse, 31, score 3 WSL goals and 5 goals in all competitions last season. Bought to provide depth for an Arsenal attack re-integrating Beth Mead following the Lioness’ ACL injury, Lacasse played just 641 league minutes, with supplemental minutes in the Conti Cup and Women’s FA Cup. Having become part of the Canadian national team, Lacasse has departed in part to secure first team football.

A 2-0 win was routine. And yet, there was still periods of anxiety.
