I’m thinking about rage, addiction, and the myriad vices that people use to deal with the stresses of life that are wreaking havoc on our country, that are causing children to be harmed, women to be harmed, men to be harmed, life to be lost, property to be damaged, generations to be ill-affected, sometimes in a generationally compounded way. I am thinking about art and our museum spaces – the tranquility they offer, the inspiration they offer, and how they serve to keep us connected to ourselves, our past, and can signal new directions. I’m thinking, how do we here in this dear land of Guyana get people en masse to explore these spaces regularly for their benefit so that their default in the face of stress, frustration, loss etc is not the bar or the corner shop drinking some beers, Guinness, high wine, or rum. I am asking myself how can they in ‘de ministry’ encourage people in this green land of Guyana to venture into these spaces, few as they may be, to feed the soul in the ways these spaces can. And I am thinking how necessary these spaces are for re/connections and about my own gratitude that despite the chaos of life in Guyana and the bombast of this election-of-elections season that such spaces exist in this here, great land of Guyana.
