The injection of the postpartum element has garnered a shocking amount of support and sympathy for Clancy in the online space, mostly from women.On Thursday, the judge allowed jurors to consider lesser offenses, including second-degree murder or manslaughter, when deliberating Clancy’s fate. The former labor and delivery nurse also faces three first-degree murder charges, which carry a life sentence without parole. If convicted of second-degree murder, Clancy would face a life sentence with the possibility of parole. A manslaughter conviction is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.During closing arguments, Clancy’s defense team painted the defendant as a “darn good mother” who was mistreated by the health care system. The state said Clancy was indeed suffering mentally, but never suffering from psychosis. Other popular dye-free cereals from General Mills include Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Reese’s Puffs, Chex, Cocoa Puffs, Golden Grahams, Cookie Crisp, and Wheaties.“As the leader in cereal, General Mills is focused on giving people what they are looking for from the brands they know and love,” General Mills’ president of cereal Bethany Quam said in a statement. She added that the company is “evolving with consumer needs while continuing to offer food that tastes great, delivers quality, and provides value.”The MAHA movement has targeted synthetic dyes in popular foods, especially foods marketed toward children. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been at the helm of steering such changes, and many GOP-led states have gotten on board too.Kennedy made removing artificial dyes a priority early in his tenure. On March 10, 2025, he told food industry leaders, including executives from General Mills and WK Kellogg Co., that he wanted artificial color additives removed from their products before he left office.Then, on April 22, 2025, Kennedy and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a plan to phase out petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation’s food supply. The administration called for the industry to eliminate six remaining dyes — including Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, and Green 3 — by the end of 2026, while also pushing companies to remove Red 3 ahead of an existing 2027 deadline.In 2025, following an investigation by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, General Mills agreed to remove synthetic dyes from all its products by the end of 2027. The company said this week that it’s on track to meet the goal.General Mills’ announcement follows other major retail stores and brands making the same MAHA switch. WK Kellogg, for example, said earlier this month that it’s removing artificial colors from all its U.S. cereals by the end of 2026. WK Kellogg makes popular cereals like Froot Loops and Apple Jacks.Earlier this year, Target said it would drop any cereals with synthetic dyes, and Walmart announced artificial colors would be removed from its store brands by January 2027.

A Utah judge is expected to decide on Tuesday whether Tyler Robinson will stand trial for the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and whether prosecutors will be allowed to pursue the death penalty.Following a five-day preliminary hearing, Judge Tony Graf will hear closing arguments from the state and defense for a maximum of two hours each before ultimately giving his ruling.Robinson, 23, is charged with aggravated murder and multiple other felonies in the September 2025 fatal shooting of Kirk at Utah Valley University, where he was engaging others with differing political views. Prosecutors have said they intend to seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted.Robinson’s attorneys have asked Graf to reject the aggravating circumstance that could make the killing eligible for capital punishment. They argue that prosecutors have not shown that the shooter knowingly created a “great risk of death” to anyone other than Kirk. Prosecutors counter that others were indeed at risk when the shot was fired.The filing does not dispute for purposes of the preliminary hearing that Robinson was the shooter. Instead, his attorneys argue that the state has not produced sufficient evidence to support the aggravated murder charge and potential death penalty.Prosecutors have also presented evidence they say ties Robinson to the shooting, including his alleged statements to people close to him. Robinson surrendered to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office about 33 hours after Kirk was shot, arriving with his parents and a family friend. Robinson’s father had reportedly confronted him after recognizing images of the suspected shooter released by authorities. According to investigators, Robinson also allegedly told his father that he was the shooter and made statements to his male roommate and romantic partner the day of the shooting that prosecutors say are confessions.Investigators also recovered the rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, along with four bullet casings, one fired and three unfired, that had messages engraved on them. One unfired casing read, “Hey fascist! Catch!” while others referenced the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella Ciao” and read, “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.” Prosecutors have pointed to the engravings and other evidence as part of their case regarding Robinson’s motive.Robinson’s defense has also repeatedly fought efforts to allow cameras and microphones in the courtroom, arguing that extensive media coverage could prejudice a future jury and undermine his right to a fair trial. Kirk’s family has asked the judge to allow full transparency, aiming to stop wild conspiracies being peddled online. Judge Graf ultimately allowed cameras during the preliminary hearing.The defense has also attempted to remove the Utah County Attorney’s Office from the case, arguing there was a conflict of interest because Chief Deputy County Attorney Chad Grunander’s daughter attended the event where Kirk was killed and communicated with her father shortly after the shooting. The defense argued the connection could affect the office’s impartiality. Judge Graf rejected the motion in February.A source close to the family told The Daily Wire that Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erika Kirk, will attend the hearing. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, as her defense team is arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.One woman told Bennett that she did not believe Clancy killed her children, despite the fact that both sides in the trial agree that she did.Another woman, who was pushing a stroller, said she wasn’t sure what to think but pointed to sleep deprivation and Clancy’s former job as a labor-and-delivery nurse.“Yes, we feel she’s very sleep-deprived,” the woman said. “Her job as a labor and delivery nurse, working night shifts, and three children is a lot.”Clancy was on maternity leave after giving birth to Callan, who was eight months old when she killed him. She ultimately decided not to return to work.Another woman told Bennett that she had children and did not rule out hurting them.“Would you ever hurt them?” Bennett asked.“Yes and no,” the woman replied. “As a mom or as a dad, I think that you are not perfect.”Asked what consequences Clancy should face, one woman said Clancy is “already in a wheelchair,” suggesting that this should be punishment enough.Another said Clancy’s husband, Patrick Clancy, “should go to jail for negligence,” adding, “he needs to take care of his kids, and that was his responsibility.”At least three women said they get their news on the trial from TikTok, where there have been countless conspiracies circulating, including claims that Patrick killed the kids and then framed Clancy.Clancy has received a number of messages of support online, particularly from women who argue the healthcare system failed to recognize and properly treat her deteriorating mental condition.Hundreds of supporters, many of them women dressed in pink, gathered outside the Plymouth County courthouse last month to express solidarity with Clancy.A separate GoFundMe campaign for Clancy’s parents has raised more than $1 million.The jury completed its fourth day of deliberations Tuesday without reaching a verdict.
