A rally for former President Donald Trump's campaign is Saturday at the Calhoun Ranch just outside Coachella, about 25 miles from Palm Springs, Calif.

Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez said he organized the rally to let people know Democrats stand united.

About 60 people gathered in downtown Coachella on Saturday morning in protest of former President Donald Trump's campaign rally that was planned later in the day near the city's outskirts at Calhoun Ranch.

Large crowds of Trump supporters gathered to head to his rally Saturday in the eastern Coachella Valley. Moods were high, but lines were long.

Four candidates are running to be the first Desert Hot Springs councilmember to represent District 4.

One incumbent is running unopposed, while another is being challenged by two candidates.

A measure on the Desert Hot Springs ballot proposed raising the sales tax rate from 7.75% to 8.75%.

Councilmember Russell Betts, Stephen Giboney and write-in candidate Stephanie Martin are challenging Mayor Scott Matas for mayor.

Cathedral City's current sales tax is 8.75%. Measure W would raise it to 9.25%.

It's a tight race between Councilmember Roger Nuñez and challenger Daniel Pitts for a seat on the Desert Hot Springs City Council.
