The yellow/orange leaves of Norway maples dominated the landscape on the way to see a rare hummingbird, all of the other deciduous trees bare except for Japanese maples in yards.

But while it's been years since I actually found an owl in one of our trees, several days before I wrote this there was one in the yard. We have an owl box where we can see it from the deck, and for weeks I was looking at its opening late in the day, hoping to see an owl sticking its head out.
