Faculty panel discusses Southwestern’s ‘globally engaged’ core value

SOUTH SUDAN (BP) – The Muslim Sudanese refugee said he was the richest man in his village before he lost all he owned.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (BP) – Visiting a friend outside his hometown of Gloucester, England, in the late 1700s, Robert Raikes encountered children cursing, gambling and fighting in the streets. He was horrified, but a local woman told him it was even worse on Sundays, the children’s one day off each week from the factory. Determined to help children in that situation learn to read and learn about the God who loved them, Raikes founded the first Sunday School in 1780.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (BP) – What was once a major port for enslaved people is now a harbor for diaspora groups, and Southern Baptists are playing a key role.

ST. CHARLES – The Missouri Baptist Convention's (MBC) Christian Life Commission is hosting a pastors' dinner, Oct. 27, before the MBC annual meeting in St. Charles.

Not for the first time, the head of the Roman Catholic Church sparked debate earlier this month after apparently preaching religious pluralism to crowds gathered in the southeast Asian nation of Singapore.

Therefore, along with this pastor, I want to urge Missouri Baptists and other Christians across our state and nation to set aside regular times of prayer and fasting prior to the election on Nov. 5. Let us examine our own hearts and repent of our own sins. Then, let us pray urgently that God would bring the spiritual awakening and revival that our churches and our society so desperately need.

During the next week, please pray that a culture of life would infuse our state and that Amendment 3 would be defeated. Pray that those who are spiritually dead would find eternal life in Christ. And pray that Christians and churches across Missouri would find spiritual renewal and restoration by abiding in the only Lord who can give us abundant life. In doing so, may we “crown Him the Lord of life.”
