It has been a while since I bragged about the State Theatre and the people who have made it the success it is today. The State Theatre originated in 1908 when it opened its doors as the Orpheum Theatre and Opera House. After falling into a state of disrepair, a complete restoration of the theatre was undertaken, and in 1928 the Orpheum reemerged with the new State Theatre name. After the theatre burned to the ground in 1944, the current version of the historic State Theatre reappeared in late 1945. The theatre you visit today is very much the same theatre that opened its doors 80 years ago. With the amazing support of a giving community, most of the restoration you enjoy today has occurred in the past 15 years.
